Raku Urn
by George Blackman

A ceramic artist for over 20 years, George works in Raku using a copper matte finish and the traditional crackle glaze. Vessels and wall pieces are available in a variety of styles and sizes, incorporating multicultural and ancient themes. His work is seen in galleries and private collections throughout the United States.

George began his ceramic career throwing functional pottery. He was first introduced to Raku by his Japanese instructor, Masako Miyata at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. In 1981 his desire to express himself more creatively led him to experiment further with Raku. With more direct exposure to the fire, his one-of-a-kind creations were more challenging and exciting to make. As his work evolved, he developed a unique style using the brilliant colors of a copper matte finish and the traditional white crackle. His forms, vessels and wall pieces, are known for their unique artifact quality.

Horsemen #2
by Bruce Howdle

Bruce Howdle has been creating ceramic sculpture since 1976. His work ranges from six foot high thrown forms to 52 foot relief murals that require nine or more tons of clay.

In Bruce's firing process, utilizing sodium, the clay surface is melted, preserving the integrity of the media and making the piece very durable.

His ceramics are suitable for large installed wall murals or locations where a free standing piece is desired. Works by Bruce are in large public institutions, banks, corporations, private offices, and homes. The price range is $1,500 to $150,000. A client is encouraged to work closely with Bruce, and during the process Bruce provides detailed drawings of the proposed project.
